The summary provides an overview. The first lecture introduces the basic
coalescent, and how we can infer parameters using these theoretical
findings using a maximum likelihood approach. In addition an introduction
to Markov chain Monte Carlo searches using the Metropolis algorithm is
given. The second lecture introduces the method of Griffiths and Tavare
and describes extensions of the basic coalescent.
