23 June 2006, Hotel Breakfast

The Mercure/Plaza presents what I would call the medium-scale (as opposed to spare or elaborate) French/German/American buffet breakfast: bread, croissants, pain au chocolat, butter, and jam for the French; sliced cheese, cold cuts, and boiled eggs for the Germans; scrambled eggs, bacon, sausages, toast, and OJ for the Americans; and dried fruit and yogurt for the health-conscious of all nationalities.

From the breakfast room window, I can see the cloud of swifts coming and going from the eves of the casino; their screaming is the sound of summer in France for me.
