Friday, 28 July, Rockville, chaos coming under control

Written 28 July 2017

The leftovers have come in handy. I had some of the lamb for breakfast, and David had some for lunch.

David and KayJeff is still working day and night, so Carolyn came over with baby Kay and stayed through lunch. Here's a photo of David posing with Kay, who looks a little dubious about the process. Rachel has been gone for most of the day, running errands, going to two doctors' appointments. Perhaps she will think of picking up milk and eggs on her way home. Before she left this morning, she presented me with a new 1000-piece jigsaw puzzle of Biltmore, in North Carolina. I've been working on it, but I'll probably have to finish it at New Years.

Ev has been catching up on paperwork, phone calls, and other things he meant to do before our trip but that got put off while he and Rachel were under the weather. For example, he went up on the roof and cleaned the gutters, finishing just before the torrential rains started.

Tonight, we're scheduled to have dinner at the Christophs'. (Their daughter Margaret features in my 2011 travel diary. Check out the 31 May entry for a photo of her with CJ. We are promised slow-roasted pork.

Dinner at the Christophs' was excellent. It was thick pork chops slow-braised in a brown tomato based sauce (I've asked for the recipe) over Parmesan-dusted noodles with farmer's market green beans on the side (real green beans, not those styrofoam ones they sell in supermarkets). Then brownie sundaes. Yum.
