Host: Qing-Xiang "Amy" Sang, PhD, Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry, Florida State University.

Tuesday, February 11 – Tuesday, February 11, 3:30 pm – 3:30 pm, 1024 KIN—BIOLOGY GENETICS CANDIDATE SEMINAR, "Transposable elements at the origins of RNA-guided mechanisms," Dr. Chance Meers, Columbia University. Host: Dr. Hank W. Bass, Department of Biological Science, FSU. The speaker is a candidate for faculty position in Biological Science - Genetics. There will be a chalk talk 10:30a.m. February 12, KIN2057, and a grad student/postdoc lunch Tuesday, Nov. 11, 11:50pm.

Thursday, February 13 – Thursday, February 13, 10:10 am – 10:10 am, —DARWIN DAY CELEBRATION, Darwin Day celebration. A photo opportunity with Darwin will be available beginning at 2:30 PM. We will have live music, cake, and of course the traditional Yo Chuck! salute, starting at 3:15 pm. We will gather in the courtyard outside KING 1024, weather permitting. If weather is unpleasant, we will shift the celebration to the next day, Friday. Guest speaker both days is Dr. Catalina Cuellar-Gempeler, a former postdoc in our Department, who investigates interactions between microbial communities and their hosts. In addition, she composed several of the musical pieces you will hear at the celebration, and she will also perform!
