1954 in the FSU Biological Science History project
In 1954, the year he left Florida State, Dr. Francis R. Hunter married Physiology Research Associate Dr. Alice S. Baker, with whom he conducted research on erythrocyte metabolism. While rearing their two daughters, the Hunters taught premedical programs in Colombia and Venezuela, then settled in Stockton, California. Both joined the faculty of the University of Pacific, where Dr. Francis Hunter was chair of the Department of Biological Science until his death of leukemia in 1978. Dr. Alice Hunter stayed on in Stockton even after her retirement from the university.
