Faculty Awards Program
Distinguished Research Professor Award
This award has been designed to recognize outstanding research and/or creative activity of FSU faculty. Recipients of this award receive a one-time stipend of $6,000. This award does not carry with it a release from regular teaching or service activities. The Council on Research and Creativity will accept up to, and no more than, five unranked (or 10% of the eligible faculty) nominations for the award from each school or college (preferably no more than one per department). Distinguished Research Professors will be named at the Annual Faculty Awards Program held in the spring semester each year.
Developing Scholar Award
The Developing Scholar Award program is a competitive program, administered by the Council on Research and Creativity, available to scholars several years advanced into their careers. The intent of this program is to identify future academic leaders at Florida State University. This program is open once a year, with nominations submitted through the academic department. Application deadlines generally fall in mid-February. The recipients receive a one-time award of $10,000.
Robert O. Lawton Distinguished Professor Award
The Robert O. Lawton Distinguished Professor award is the highest honor faculty can bestow on a colleague. To be eligible for this award, the faculty member must be a tenured professor, have been at the University for at least ten years, and have achieved true distinction nationally and/or internationally in his discipline or profession. Although scholarly distinction is the primary qualification, emphasis is placed on the evidence of quality teaching including the directing of graduate research, and service to the University and academic community. President's Continuing Education Awards
The President's Continuing Education Award recognizes outstanding faculty contributions to continuing education and outreach as an important part of this University's mission. The recipient receives a $2000 honorarium. Contact the Center for Professional Development for additional information.
Named FSU Professorship
Named Professorships are a means of recognizing and honoring outstanding faculty in the colleges and schools of Florida State University. Such faculty are expected to exemplify standards of excellence in the performance of teaching, research and service within a specific discipline/profession. The professorship carries with it a $5000 base salary increase. Contact the Office of the Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs for additional information.
University Teaching Awards
The University Teaching Awards program recognizes faculty for excellence in undergraduate and graduate teaching. Recipients must be outstanding in the many aspects of teaching which contribute to successful teaching and learning. This is a student-oriented award with nominations submitted by students and alumni. Each recipient receives a $2000 award. University Advising Awards
Recipients of University Advising Awards have been nominated by students who have been beneficiaries of their services. These individuals dedicate their time to insuring that students receive the best possible advice related to their courses and their career choices. The recipient receives a $2000 award. Superior Liberal Studies Honors Teaching Award
The Superior Liberal Studies Honors Teaching Award recognizes a faculty member who has been outstanding in his service to the students in the Honors Program. Contact the University Honors Program office for additional information.
Honors Thesis Mentor Award
Award given in recognition of serving as mentor to undergraduates who write honors theses. This honor includes a $2000 award From FSU.
Graduate Faculty Mentor Award
Award given in recognition for excellence in graduate education and professional development of graduate students. This honor includes a $3000 award from FSU
Graduate Teaching Award
Award given in recognition for excellence in graduate teaching. Recipients of this award are deemed outstanding in the many aspects of teaching which contribute to successful teaching and learning.
University Distinguished Teaching Award
To be eligible for this award, the faculty member must have received a University Teaching Award at least five years prior to being nominated for the Distinguished Teacher Award. The successful nominee must document continued excellence in teaching for the five years since receipt of the original University Teaching Award. This honor includes a $7500 award funded by Florida State University.
