Policy
for the Use of Data
The protocols for data ownership, custodial liability,
data submission and data access are similar to those
being developed by other agencies. I have largely
modified the guidelines provided by the National
Estuarine Service.
Liability Policy
Any data provided here are only as good as the quality
assurance and quality control procedures outlined in
our methods. The user bears all responsibility for its
subsequent use/misuse in any further analyses or
comparisons. Florida State University, and T. E.
Miller, do not assume liability to the Recipient or
third persons, nor will Florida State University or T.
E. Miller indemnify the Recipient for its liability
due to any losses resulting in any way from the use of
this dataset.
Data Dissemination Policy
This dataset was collected by T. E. Miller and
volunteers and students working under the direction of
T. E. Miller. Thomas E. Miller and his volunteers and
students retain the rights to be fully credited for
having collected and processed the data. Following
academic courtesy standards, the source of this data
should be fully acknowledged in any subsequent
publications in which any part of this dataset is
used. Manuscripts resulting from this research and
data collection effort that are produced for
publication in open literature, including refereed
scientific journals, shall acknowledge that the
research was funded by T. E. Miller, Department of
Biological Science, Florida State University, with
additional funds provided by a Hurricane Rapid
Research Initiative (HURRI) Grant from the
International Hurricane Center (IHC), the National
Science Foundation, the US Fish and Wildlife
Service, the National Estuarine Research Reserve
system, and the Northern Gulf Institute.
Data Ownership and Dissemination Policy
Data collected under this research program are
considered public information. We will make a
reasonable attempt to make data publicly available
within a year of the sampling date. However, if data
are needed at an earlier time, a request can be made
to T. E. Miller.

Some
data are also available from Trinity, Horn, Santa

Islands.
In particular, there have been annual censuses
conducted at Santa Rosa (in the Gulf Island National
Seashore near Fort Pickens) and Crooked Islands since
2010. These data will be made available as they
are processed. If
data are needed at an earlier time, a request can be
made to T. E.
