Mode of Nutrition

Photosynthesis is a two-step process:

1. Using special purpose pigments, such as chlorophyll, plants convert light energy into high-energy-chemical intermediates.

2. The high-energy-chemical intermediates are used in the conversion of energy-poor raw materials (CO2, NO3-, or SO4 2-) to biologically useful forms (e.g. sugars and amino acids).
