Objectives

Students will learn:

• The principal forms and purposes of scientific communication and the similarities and differences among them.

• The steps in scientific publishing.

• How to write clear, concise, and correct scientific prose for publication, oral or poster presentation, and funding proposals.

• How to improve existing scientific prose.

• How to organize scientific data into clear and effective tables and figures.

• How to avoid or correct the errors commonly made by scientific writers.

• How to prepare a manuscript for publication.

• Correct ways to handle and mark galley and page proofs.

• How to construct a professional curriculum vitae.

• How to make effective use of library resources in scientific research.
