Established in 1855, and moved to
its present location in 1877, the point Bonita lighthouse rests at the far
Southwestern tip of the Marin headlands.
A short drive by car, but you can see how far from the city the
lighthouse is in these pictures.
Eventually we gaze out toward the
lighthouse, which is on the other side of the very large rocky outcrop in the
image above.
The lighthouse is a great place to
see flora and fauna.
From where the people are standing
in the picture above it is a long way to the water below. One can easily appreciate the value of
this promontory for guiding ships in the thick Bay Area fog.
The good folks of San Francisco
come to the lighthouse regularly to watch the sunset and the moonrise. So, I invite you to relax and enjoy
some sunset as only the west coast has to offer.
Finally, of course, here is the
lighthouse itself. The bridge seen
in the image below leading to the lighthouse holds 500 pounds maximum, so
reaching the structure is a coordinated effort of all the visitors to travel
across two at a time.
