Sunday, August 3, 2:00 pm, Education Bldg., St.Marks National Wildlife Refuge, 1255 Lighthouse Rd., St. Marks, FL—FIRST SUNDAY AT THE REFUGE, "Down in a hole--gopher tortoises and their habitat," Michael T. Keys, Biologist, Florida Fish and Wildlife Service. Host: St. Marks National Wildlife Refuge. Gopher tortoises are one of the Southeast’s most enigmatic species, living in underground burrows yet adapted to sunny upland habitats, until recently considered a food source but now a candidate for Endangered Species Act status. Wildlife Refuge entrance fee is $5. Duck Stamp and other federal passes accepted.
