1997 in the FSU Biological Science History project

1997 In the Department of Biological Science at Florida State University (updated 18 Feb 05)

In 1997, a new genus of bacterium was named Friedmanniella in honor of Professor E. Imre Friedmann.

To commemorate the departure of long-time Biological Science professor Daniel Simberloff, his former students and colleagues organized "Simberfest," a day-long scientific meeting held in 228 Conradi Building and culminating in a barbecue at Tall Timbers Research Station. Speakers travelled from as far away as Israel and Australia. Read the schedule of talks.
