Green Lynx Spiders
The Green Lynx Spider (Peucetia viridans) is a common local resident in the forests near Tallahassee. This species exhibits a variety of fascinating and easily observed behaviors, including maternal care of offspring and, as their name suggests, some spectacular feats of predatory behavior. With Drs. Tom Miller and Alice Winn, we've been dabbling in developing short research projects involving individually marked spiders in the Appalachicola National Forest for the graduate student Field Quantitative Methods course. The Lynx system also offers excellent opportunities for fall undergraduate research projects close to the FSU campus - contact Dr. DuVal if you're interested!
