Week of 9/5

Chamberlin 1890, Dayton 1973, and part of Turchin 2003, Chapter 1.
I'd like to spend a bit of time having a discussion about Chamberlin and Dayton, so please read them. I've included a few pages from Peter Turchin's book more as background material than fodder for discussion. I'm also posting Platt 1964, which provides a slightly different take on Chamberlin, from the perspective of somebody (too?) enamoured with Popper. Read it if you're interested and have time and we can discuss that one too -- its a classic.

Week of 9/13

Ecological Detective Chapter 3.
This is a long chapter and so we probably won't finish all of it on Tuesday.
Here is a table showing various probability distributions, which I sometimes find to be a useful reference. It's taken from a book by Gelman, Carlin, Stern & Rubin 1995. Bayesian Data Analysis. Chapmand & Hall, NY, NY.
